Eveline Josefine Oswald
Born in Switzerland in 1962, Eveline’s artistic journey is one of deep connection, constant transformation, and the revival of the forgotten.
For Eveline, the act of creation is a fundamental need—a path to finding balance. Her sculptures and paintings are born from an intense, hands-on relationship with her materials. She meticulously combines organic elements—including bone, hair, wood, goat skulls, stone, and leather—with salvaged industrial components like sheet metal, and glass.
Through this artisan approach, she breathes new life into discarded matter, crafting textural compositions that are profound physical reflections of her personal experiences and her evolving relationship with the world.
The Wilderness as a Muse
This lifelong fascination with the simple and the authentic began at age twenty. Compelled to travel and explore lesser-known traditions, Eveline embarked on a four-month journey to Sinai, living amongst Bedouin families. Tending goats, searching for water, and cooking under the starry sky, she was deeply imprinted by the profound simplicity of their life, close to nature.
Today, she creates her work in a Yurt in the wilds of Crete. Here, her studio practice is entirely shaped by the extraordinary wilderness, drawing inspiration from archaic cultures and her immediate, natural world.
Her art is intentionally left nameless; rather than dictating a narrative, Eveline invites the viewer to use their "inner eye." Through her powerful fusion of the natural and the salvaged, her work seduces people to tell their own stories, evoke their own visualisations, and awaken their own memories.
